"These individuals are indeed qualified to implement FNA. However, good results depend on their having received training in aspiration wtih frequent performance of the technique and on having made provisions for proper handling of aspirated material by suitably schooled personell. When the clinician involved is not a surgeon but is an internist, gynecologist, or general clinician, the degree of expertise brought to the aspiration my be considerably less. these physicians may deal with patients in need of FNA less often and thus have little ongoing practice in the method. it has been shown that those performing aspirations on an occasional basis do not obtain the best results possible."
